Velvl Chernin
Poet, Scholar of Literature
Yiddish poet, ethnographer, translator and literary critic, Dr. Velvl Chernin graduated from Moscow State University (M.A. in Ethnography, 1981). First published Yiddish poems in “Sovyetishe Heimland” magazine in 1983. Since 1990 lives in Israel. Received his PhD from Bar-Ilan University in 1999, teaches Yiddish literature at Ben-Gurion University (Be’er-Sheva) and Bar-Ilan University. In 1996, Velvl received the David Hoffstein Prize.
