Pawel Maciejko

Scholar of religion

Born and raised in Warsaw, Poland, and trained at University of Oxford, Pawel Maciejko was a Joseph H. and Belle Braun Senior Lecturer in the Humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2008-2016. After completing his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago, he is at present an associate professor of Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore).

He is the author of numerous publications in the field of Jewish Studies and he has held visiting positions at academic institutions worldwide, including the University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. His book The Mixed Multitude: Jacob Frank and the Frankist Movement 1755-1816 was awarded the Polonsky Prize for Creativity and Originality in Humanistic Disciplines, the Salo Baron Prize in Jewish History and the 2014 Jordan Schnitzer Book Award.
